This Pasadena home received a complete flooring refresh, replacing its older bamboo floors with Select Grade 6-inch natural white oak engineered hardwood flooring. The goal was to make the interior feel cleaner, brighter, and more current while preserving the traditional character of the home.
Before: Outdated Bamboo Flooring
The existing home featured narrow-strip bamboo flooring through the kitchen, upstairs hallway, and staircase. The smaller format and warmer yellow tones made the interior feel dated compared with the lighter, wider-plank look the homeowners wanted.
The Staircase Transformation
The staircase became one of the defining features of the renovation. We upgraded it with coordinating natural white oak treads and risers and a substantial 5 1/2-inch square-profile nosing. The wider nosing gives each step a stronger architectural presence and creates the cleaner lines associated with a modern hardwood staircase.
At the same time, the natural white oak grain works with the home’s existing railing and architecture. The result elevates the space and makes it feel more modern without taking away its traditional Pasadena charm.
6-Inch Select Grade Natural White Oak
For the main living areas, we installed 6-inch Select Grade white oak engineered hardwood. Select Grade provides a cleaner and more consistent appearance, while the natural finish allows the grain of the white oak to remain visible. The wider plank proportions also give the rooms a more open and refined appearance.
A More Timeless Pasadena Home
The finished project shows how the right hardwood flooring can update a home without erasing what makes it special. Replacing the bamboo with natural white oak created a brighter, more cohesive foundation throughout the house, while the custom staircase details helped tie the entire renovation together.
